What?
The Limassol International Marathon is the major running event in Limassol, the second largest city of Cyprus. A half marathon and a 10K are organized the same day too.
Where?
The start and finish are on the seafront of Limassol (at the Old Stadium GSO) and the race follows a coastal route via the towns of Limassol City, Akti Olympion, Germassogia, Agios Tychon, Ancient Amathus and Pyrgos village. You will never be far away from the sea.
When?
Organized by Olympus Event Management and supported by the Cyprus Tourism Organisation, the 2011 edition will be on February 20.
Why?
It's not Berlin or the NYC marathon, it is not a world class event (yet), and the website needs some improvements. But the Limassol marathon is a great chance to run a very flat race and enjoy a cheap and sunny break in late winter, with great beaches and breathtaking trails. Drink a glass of Commandaria, a sweet dessert wine, enjoy the party capital of Cyprus and spend a few relaxing days around the Mediterranean island when the crowds are gone.
How (much)?
Registration fee is €50 for the marathon (€30 until end of 2010), €20 for the half marathon and the 10K. Larnaca airport and Paphos airport (both approximately 70km from Limassol) have many connections with all major European destinations, thanks to Air Berlin, SmartWings, Monarch, easyJet and Jet2.com. Cyprus has an impressive choice of accommodation, with many international chains and local low budget options: finding a good offer next February is going to be easy. Check the Cyprus Tourism Organisation (www.visitcyprus.com) website for more ideas.
